Dr Byrne graduated from UCD in 1996 with honours. Following intern and SHO rotations at St Vincents and the Mater University Hospital, Dr Byrne entered Specialist Registrar training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine, which she completed in 2006. She was awarded an MD by thesis from RCSI in the same year.  In 2007, Dr Byrne completed her Advanced Endoscopy training in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, a Harvard Affiliated Hospital. Dr Byrne's main Interests are in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, colon cancer  screening, and irritable bowel syndrome. Dr Byrne has been practicing at the Mater Private Hospital since 2016.
